I can freely admit that I was just happy to have more Bigby and Snow, and that's a huge part of my generous rating. But this was genuinely good. It's very dark and noir. There is some bad language and sexual situations, and the killer is really depraved. Convincing as a murder mystery set in Fabletown can be. The examination of class distinctions and the vulnerabilities of certain groups in society is prescient and delivered in a way that is far from preachy.
I liked the flashback to when Bigby

Played the game. Read the comic. Fell in love.
Really, Bigby Wolf is one of my favorite comic characters.
And here I was thinking Fables was over for me.
I've read the whole series and all the spin-offs, so seeing this comic based off the video game after reading 150, I was a little thrown off. Wasn't Fables over? I was happy it was over too. However, I really liked this game. I thought it had a great story and they added interesting characters that aen't in the comic books.
Reading this book is similar to playing the game, but it's like if the writers played the game. Since the game is set up were yo

Telltale's The Wolf Among Us game was recommended to me by my brother, as he knew how much I enjoyed their Walking Dead game series. And just like those, I absolutely loved The Wolf Among Us. So when I saw that the game had been made into a two-part graphic novel series, I could not resist it. In addition, as the game allows you to make choices that alter the narrative, I thought it would be interesting to see how the events of the graphic novels differ from my game.
The story follows the events

This makes me want to replay the game. I know the story and I know how things would turn out, but the comic manages to keep me on edge and adding new details and backstory without overloading me with unnecessary information. I also love the characterisation of Bigby, which...I'm actually sort of concerned about, at first, since game!Bigby's character depends on how you play him, and I'm sort of afraid that the writer would screw it up. But turns out he's in really good hands. I love the comic in...more

I had just finished the video game 'The Wolf Among Us' and I thought this was further stories, but it was in fact just the game's plot, laid out in graphic novel format. There was a fun but confusing plot about Salem that was new, but it took up very few pages. The rest was not new material.

After being so disappointed in how the main series ended, this spin-off was a pleasant surprise. Just a creepy murder mystery being solved by the Big Bad Wolf. No big deal.
Bouncing back in time to pre-requited Snow and Bigby reminded me of how much I liked the original series when I started it. I’m on board for more Bigby-centric tales.

I received this book for free from the publisher in exchange for an honest review.
The Wolf Among Us is a prequel of sorts to the Fables series. It takes place roughly 20 years prior to the events of the books, and fills in some of the gaps that later get explored in volumes such as From Fabletown With Love, which is satisfying. However, The Wolf Among Us could easily be enjoyed without any background in Fables, and vice versa, which is largely the strength of the book.
My interest in this was

So apparently Bigby's a softer, gentler wolf than I thought. I played through The Wolf Among Us, and I remember choosing harsher conversational tacts than I normally would to be more in line with by image of Bigby. But in this adaptation, I can see him making choices I turned down as being too soft. So official Bigby has a softer side than I expected...
That being said, this does a good job of recapturing the look and feel of the Wolf Among Us game, in a narrative form. It helps that the game is

I really enjoyed this first volume of stories featuring Bigby Wolf from the Fables graphic novel series.
I read the complete series but I wasnt too happy with the way the series ended. It just felt kind of rushed, somehow incomplete and a bit messy with so many different story lines which actually didn't come together in a comprehensive way.
With this new series we kick off with a strong focus and great story lines starring Bigby as the main character. I hope we get more stories like this with a

The Wolf Among Us is the first volume in a new series set in the world of of Fables. Luckily for me, this prequel volume revolves around my very favorite Fables character, Bigby Wolf.
In The Wolf Among Us, Bigby is sheriff of Fabletown, serving under acting mayor Ichabod Crane and secretly pining for his beloved Snow White. Bigby continually finds himself in one sticky situation after another (a.k.a., violence and mayhem), and is soon drawn into a murder investigation that seems to be hitting awf

As always the Fables series continues to surprise. This one went to some pretty dark places (as befits a classic noir) and came up with some intriguing connections across story lines. If i wasn't already deep into the fables universe this story might have been hard to follow. As an intro to the fables universe i dont think this is a good starting point. For fans of the series this richly rewards a reading and you get to enjoy the tension between Bigby and Snow. Im amazed the universe manages to...more

This is a comic book version of the PC game with some extra content to make it worth reading, even if you've played the game. It follows the 'correct' path through the story.
I'm digging it. The art's good, the story's good. My only complaint is that it's dense. It took me a while to read. It's worth it, though. :)

Loved it!
I love the game and I love the comics so naturally I had to pick up this.
The first part follows the game pretty closely, up until the first scene in the business where we get a longer and even more horrifying recounting of Faith's tale, in verse. From there the story gets much more fleshed out, with additional dialogue and flashbacks to the first time Bigby and Crane met.
From a gaming perspective it both fun and weird to see the 'canon' way of choosing between the different options. Some of them

This is an excellent adaptation of the video game. The art is attractive and the writing is engaging. While it follows the game closely, unless you've played every possible choice in the game, it likely won't be a repeat of your exact play through as the book needs to make solid choices in places where the players would have options to do things multiple ways. A nice and unexpected addition is a small side story/flashback interspersed throughout the main story in small snippets that covers mater...more

The story was known to me since I'd played the video game, but still it kept my interest. Someone could compare it with Once Upon a Time, but Fables is way more interesting and more truthful to its characters.
Its colours and general aesthetics are truly magnificent!! It's what got me from the very begining and couldn't stop admiring in every page. The way they used the colours, the contrasts, the shadows I loved every bit of it.
What I also found interesting where the flashbacks, something that w

A good murder mystery is always welcome in my reading list. Bigby Wolf is definitely my favourite character in the Fables series. His instincts, his no-nonsense approach to law enforcement, is balanced by his ultimately kind heart, his wry humour and his tenacity. The villain of this particular set of books is slow to be revealed and the author weaves a fairly convincing scape goat out of a despicable, pathetic, little man. I already started the second volume!

I've played TellTale games, but haven't played this one. Haven't read the other Fable comics.
I enjoy fairytale remixes, and this was decent. I wish more characters were less human, and liked Bigby best when he was his most wolfen. The story has some non-linear elements that I like, the art is clean but not particularly stylistic/inspired.

I love Fables and this novel-form adaptation of the plot of the Telltale Games game “The Wolf Within” was excellent. My husband and I played the game and really enjoyed it but to be honest, I’d forgotten many of the small details of the plot. Great read and I am planning to get trade #2 and finish off this storyline.

This is prequel to the regular Fables series, a Noir even darker than what we've seen in the regular Fables series. Bigby Wolf plays the sheriff breaking the rules and deals with drugs, strip clubs, prostitution and more. Really gritty stuff here. I like it but still prefer the main Fables series. I am curious to see how all of this turns out in volume two.
Loving the story, the novel however lacks the distinct artistic talent scheme that delivered a very graphic grim characteristic present in the video game and having it 'missing' in the artwork takes away a large understanding of characters and the overall feeling of each situation in the story.

The story unfolds slowly and it's nice to spend time with Snow and Bigby again. The constantly rotating cast of artists was annoying to me, but at least the character designs didn't vary too much. The antagonist is hardly a surprise, though their history with Bigby is.

I love fairy tales so much. So what could be better than all of them mixed together and on top of that some brutal murders?
I played the TellTale game first and really wanted to re-visit the story. All I can say is this comic is just as awesome!
